The conversion of Clark Air Force Base from an American to an Philippine Base warranted the renaming of the buffer park, however, the base maintained its American name. Whether nuclear weapons were based here was neither confirmed nor denied by the Americans as a policy.
The majestic Salakot at the original site enroute to Checkpoint was also constructed to remind entrants that they were indeed going into a Philippine base.
