Founded in 1949, the Ruse State Opera is the inheritor of the Ruse Opera Society – created in 1919, which makes it one of the oldest state cultural institutions in Bulgaria.
It participated in many international festivals: Sofia music weeks, Varna Summer, March Music Days and in Krems (Austria), and had guest-performances in Romania, Greece, Ukraine, Italy, France, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal, Germany..
In 1999 the Ruse Opera and the Rousse Philharmonic Orchestra united in Opera and Philharmonic Society - Ruse.
