Census-designated place with a population of 2,348 at the 2000 census. Name likely derived either from a tract of cattle grazing land used in the Revolutionary era called the "Golden Groves," or the Golden Grove plantation founded in 1848 by Dr. Junius Smith, a retired English doctor, who attempted to grow tea here.
