Situated just off the southeast corner of the busy intersection of MacDade Boulevard and Morton Avenue (near the latter road's changeover into Swarthmore Avenue), the Ridley Shopping Center was constructed in the late 1990s following the closure of the Ridley Bowl bowling alley.
With a strip of small businesses, including a gift shop, laundromat, and luncheonette, from the Ridley Bowl parking lot's property kept in place, several larger chain retailers were opened directly opposite from the aforementioned businesses.
Chains within the new building include Acme (its largest retailer), Staples, Blockbuster Video, and Papa John's Pizza.
Additionally, a traffic light was installed at the intersection of Monta Vista Avenue and MacDade Boulevard and a second entrance into the shopping center was constructed. This successfully linked the main buildings with pre-existing Wendys and Applebee's restaurants.
Several years following the shopping center's opening, a Home Depot was constructed on the southeastern side of the land and subsequently linked to the remainder of the property.
Offers were made to link the shopping center with the already-existing Path-Mark supermarket, but these were denied by Path-Mark management. Thus, a chain-link fence and grass median strip separate the properties. Commuters wishing to access one of the properties from the other must travel on MacDade Boulevard for a short distance.
