Site of ACL Monticello station/US 90 bridgeWhen the Atlantic Coast Line was urged to "bypass" Monticello, Florida,
this was the location chosen for their new passenger depot, built to serve those wishing to travel on the SOUTHLAND. Other local passenger service stopped here, too, including Thomasville(GA)-Tampa locals, and the occasional detouring City of Miami or Sunchaser. "Lady Bird" Johnson's Civil Rights Special operated over the "Perry" cutoff, through this station, in the mid 1960's When the cutoff was abandoned in the early 1970's, the ACL bridge over US 90, was removed. The station survived about a decade or so, then was eventually de-constructed. Category: site station railway bridge
