Named after the fishery research ship "FFS Anton Dohrn", which discovered it. The ship is named after Felix Anton Dohrn (1840 - 1909), a prominent German Darwinist and the founder and first director of the Stazione Zoologica, Naples, Italy. The Anton Dohrn Seamount in the Rockall Trough, to the north-west of the British Isles, has become known for the great biodiversity which lives on the cold-water coral, Lophelia pertusa, in this region.
