12 acres on the East side of Centre Island Road originally owned by Jacob Smith who sold it along with an additional 26 acres to George Bullock in 1913.
Purchased by George Nichols, son of John W. T. Nichols (The Kettles) and husband of Jane Norton Morgan (grand daughter of J.P. Morgan) sometime between 1914 and 1924. Nichols was a noted yachtsman and one time Commodore of the New York Yacht Club. Having sailed in several America's Cup challenges, Nichols went on to win the Scandanavia Gold Cup in 1938 captaining the 6 meter "Goose". Designed by Sparkman and Stevens, Goose, is arguably the single most famous and victorious 6 meter in the world. 4 time winner of the Scandinavian Gold Cup; 1938, 1939, 1947, 1948. Winner of the Seawanhaka Cup in 1957 and many other international races.
The Nichols used the grounds as a picnic area and Morgan Place on Centre Island is named for Mrs. Nichols. All of the homes were built from 1926 onward.
Nichols sold the land in 1924 to Corbin Wheeler a Glen Cove banker and real estate broker, and Lynn B. Hammond, Tax Assessor for Glen Cove. Hammond and Corbin subdivided the property into individual lots and incorporated it in 1926 as a sub division "Centre Island Estates Association". Currently 19 houses on lots zoned at 1/2 acre.
