Newberry Caldera

Formed a few hundred thousand years ago by large explosive eruptions, it contains Paulina Lake (west) and East Lake, separated by a 7,300 year old cinder cone. Thick lava flows, including the 1,300 year-old Big Obsidian Flow, line the caldera.

Camping, fishing, a (very) small hot spring, and a nature trail through a massive obsidian flow. Very, very cool!
