This portion of the 620 acre Manatoc Scout Reservation was opened July 8th, 1962 and dedicated July 25th, 1962 as Camp Butler. Camp Butler was designed as a pioneer camp that provided more self-sufficient style of camping for experienced Boy Scouts. The original Camp Manatoc was founded on what is now the SW corner of Camp Butler. After the passing of Karl Butler an additional 400+ acres of his land was willed to the Scouts for the construction of a new camp. The "new" Camp Manatoc was opened in 1932 and the previous facilities were abandoned/removed.
