Detroit's forgotten Chinatown was centered around Bagley and Third Streets and extended west beyond the current location of the Lodge Freeway (M-10). After World War II, the Chinese population of Detroit was over 3,000 with Chinatown having a booming economy.

The area was demolished because of the construction of the Lodge Freeway in the early 1950s. There was an attempt to relocate Chinese population to Cass and Peterboro and though the area thrived briefly, it never succeeded like the prior location. Most stores and restaurants closed by the early 1980s.
