Once a premier northside facility, equipped with a helicopter landing pad on the roof, and state of the art burn-care facilities. Birthplace of Hillary Rodham Clinton and John Wayne Gacy.
This hospital closed in the late 1990's after substantial Medicare/Medicaid fraud blacklisted it from receiving further business from Federal or State medical programs. This was due to performing unneeded operations and amputations on homeless men picked up from the many methadone clinics in this area. Although some offices still use the main buildings, the old parking facility was sold to developers, and the future of the site is still uncertain. Based on other Chicago hospitals that have closed, redevelopment or condo conversion is a possibility.

  • What about the people that was born there and how are they going yo get their medical records. I was born in this hospital on 6/30/1975 and I didn't know they closed, I'm sure that there are others that would like to get their medical records and more information about what they need to do to get their medical records.
  • My uncle Larry died there...he was 15. I really wanna know alot about him, he died a way no one should go
  • If you need a birth certificate, you can get that from the county. But if you need actual medical records of treatment that you received there, you are probably SOL. You may be able to contact your doctor/medical group as they should have received copies at the time of treatment and those would be archived by the doctor's office.
  • Anyone know if this place has been demolished?
  • My Mother was the LAST PERSON to die there needlessly.
  • It's still there. My mom and I drove by it a couple months ago.
  • This summer 2016.
  • I was very sad to here such a thing has happened to this hospital. Does anyone know any long time employees of the hospital that may have worked there during 1988/89 ? I can be reached at Fairgate@Mail2world.com
  • This was the place that Hillary Clinton was born.
  • Yeah. I just read that on wikipedia and follow the link.
  • I got in one of the buildings about 2 months ago and found a bunch of records from people

  • When ever it says that a place was abandoned/shut down/I don't know why but I get kinda scared
  • I went there to see it today. I was born there in 1960. There is scaffolding going down one side of the building, broken windows on lower level.
  • I was born there in the 60s as well. I didn't know it was shut down
  • I worked in the ER and the burn and trauma unit back in 82 thru 89. I remember Dr Mazil and his wife checking the linen cabinet and counting the towels because they thought staff was stealing them. I lived in the apartments connected to the hospital. Cheap rent back then only 145.00 a month plus 3 meals a day if you wanted to eat there. My first job as a RN and I will never forget it. How sad to see the pictures of what happened to it.
  • This hospital was really shady in its last year of service. Very Demonic things. Just Terrible
  • I was born there May 24, 1961 so the birth certificate states.
  • Is that because of the people eater and the Hillary? I was raised in Gomper's Park. The two aforementioned are NOT from my Chicago
  • Currently in the process of being demolished. They have a security guard posted there and the place is riddled with asbestos. Probably not the best place to explore.
  • I worked there as an orderly in 1977 while attending grad school. The owner (Dr. Maurice Mazel) wife Harriet walked all the patient floors every day to talk with patients. If she found a patient's call light not answered quickly enough, she fired the staff person. The place was run like a Navy ship, and I learned a lot about being prompt, precise & correct from my time there.
  • Kiss your records goodbye, they have been left sitting in a vacant building for over 10 years exposed to the elements. There are more articles online about the state of said records.
