Peranakan or Baba Nyonya culture is a fascinating culture that is unique to Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. During the 15th and 16th century, when men from China sailed across the ocean to South East Asia seeking for a better life, they married local women and also amalgamated Malayan and Chinese culture. The descendants are referred to as “Peranakans” or Baba Nyonyas. This former home of Kapitan Chung Keng Kwee (who made his name through tin & mining business and his leadership position in the Hai San secret society) has been converted into a showcase of the opulent lifestyle of the Peranakans and their many customs and traditions, displaying over a thousand pieces of antiques and collectibles of this unique community. Daily conducted tour at 11.30am and 3.30pm sharp. Opens: Mon - Sat, 9am to 5pm Closed on Sundays and all public holidays. Admission: RM10.00 for adult (aged 12 and above) Free for children below 12 and RM5.00 for School Children in uniform. Admission Fee RM 20 per person (19/1/14). Tel: (604) 264 2929.
