Jack Thompson was the last full time resident of the Royal Gardens subdivision. His house was open as a Bed and Breakfast for those seeking a truly isolated retreat! After almost 30 years, it was finally destroyed on the evening of March 2nd, 2012. Good luck Jack! We wish you the best!

  • I visited Jack for the 3rd time this year the weekend of 6/20/08 thru 6/22/08. The existing a'a flows were cascading between Prince and Royal Avenue and as far east as King Avenue intersecting Orchid street. This is a good 1/2 to 3/4 mile from Jack's residence and separated by a 30 foot high wall of remnant a'a lava from the 1986 Warrior flow. The recent King Ave a'a flow stalled late July at the lower flats and the lava is firmly channeled again in the tube system terminating at ocean entry. Jack's Lava House is cocooned nicely and out of harms way. As Jack's states........this is paradise truly Hawaiian style.
