The migrants started to occupy land in Pulikurumba from the mid of 1940s. It was mostly by people from Kottayam district. Majority of the migrants were the Christians who acted as the catalysts of bringing in a cross culture to the Malabar region. Infact the term Malabar was really coined or popularised by these migrants. The travel of people to Pulikurumba was started during the mid of 1940. During the initial stages, transportation and road were were poor in Pulikurumba. But, the intervention of migrants and the priests there paved way for a drastic development of the region within a short span of time. Though there were no other foreign missionaries to the spot, the priests from Thalassery Arch Diocese took the lead. It was Mar Augustine Valloppally who was the leader of the migrants. He travelled all across Malabar and sought the well-being of all migrants. For the development of Pulikurumba also the hands of this divine personality is visible. Some of the early migrants of Pulikurumba were the Alappurackal and Chemmanamthada family. They stayed at venkunnu and slowly assisted the other migrants to purchase property and occupy land in Pulikurumba. For more details: pulikurumba.blogspot.com
