Southern end of Mersey Approach training bank, known locally as "The Revetment" is uncovered at low water. It serves to protect the Crosby Channel and direct the flow from the River Mersey beyond its estuary to ensure good maintenance of a deep shipping channel without undue dredging effort. It was built starting in 1909 and ending around 1960. This particular section was built in 1923. The water to the East is the Crosby Channel for ships. The waters to the West are somewhat changing over the years but are mostly shallow sandbanks including the Great Burbo Bank and will be well suited to giant land reclamation and energy projects, or even development such as the building of new docks, railway line etc..
