museum, military
The octagonal building, designed by John Nash, began life as a vast tent originally erected in St. James’ Park in 1814 as part of premature celebrations of victory over Napoleon. It was converted into a permanent building by Nash in 1822.
It used to hold many artillery pieces and in 2001 items were transferred to the Firepower museum. Now The Rotunda has ceased to be open to the public, except by special arrangement.
