This part of the farm is called the diep (island) because during the monsoons the entire field gets submerged by the waters of the Narmada and the Palakmati (a tributary of the Narmada). The waters subside leaving behind a thick layer of very fertile silt, because of which we haven't ever used any fertiliser. The drawback obviously is that because of the flooding we can get only one crop a year.
