U Hybernu Palace (Prague)

The former Ambrosians monastery has been built before the 1348. After the Thirty Years' War (1618 - 1648) Emperor Ferdinand II allowed to the Irish (Hybernian) Franciscans to restore the desolated monastery. Since this time the house has been called U Hybernu (At the Hybernians).
The contiguous originally Gothic church of Virgin Mary Immaculate Conception was rebuilt in the middle of the 17th century in Baroque style. It was damaged by the Prussians during the Seven Years War. In 1785 the monastery was dissolved by the Emperor Joseph II and the building was used by the Czech Theatre Society and later it was converted into a customs house. The present Classical style was made in 1806 - 1811. The building served as an exhibition hall in the 20th century. In 2006 was the the monastery church transformed as the theatre again.
