In 1985 the Hotel Ridzene (Zane Kalinka and Juris Gertmanis 1984) won the first prize and medal at the exhibition in Moscow of the USSR Association of Architects as the best building of the USSR erected in 1984. In 2000 Kalinka, assisted by Andris Vītols, extended the hotel. Andris Vītols, born in 1943, studied in Moscow and has worked on several renovation projects in Riga including Bruņinieku 49 (2001).
