The Wellington Testimonial, commonly mistakenly referred to as the Wellington Monument, was built to commemorate the victories of the Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington. Wellington, also known as the 'Iron Duke' was born in Dublin. The memorial is located at the eastern end of the Phoenix Park and at 205 feet (62 metres) tall is the tallest obelisk in Europe and the second tallest in the world.
