Binnenrotte (Rotterdam)

Netherlands / Zuid-Holland / Rotterdam
 store / shop, marketplace

The marketsquare on the Binnenrotte. After the completion of the railway tunnel in 1993, the old 19th century railroad viaduct was torn down and a large square was created in the middle of the city. A market is held here several times a week, occasionally it is also used for other events.

Currently this area is undergoing a transformation, with ugly old buildings being torn down and new ones being erected.

This is also the place where Rotterdam was founded in the 13th century when a dam was constructed in the river Rotte. Unfortunately, there are virtually no old buildings left here, as a result of the bombing of the city during World War II.
