The Old Town (Lutsk)

Ukraine / Volynska / Lutsk
invisible, historic city center, residential area

In the old town, house after house reminds you that Lutsk should be understood as a reflection of Europe in the days of Oleg, Liubart and the Vitovt principality. The architecture of the town is colorfully represented by works of Jewish, Italian, Polish, and Armenian architects. The town of Lutsk was always an international town where about 16 confessions were represented, each of which having its own churches and individual architectural constructions. That's why the town of Lutsk was called the “Rome of the East.” The Old Lutsk territory occupies an area of about 41 hectares and is one of the historical and cultural reserves under the name of the Old Town. Prince Liubart played a significant role in the history of Lutsk. He constructed a fortification in place of a wooden castle and, since then, the castle bears his name: “The Castle of Liubart.” The castle has several thematic expositions, among which the Museum of Bells is the only one of its kind in Ukraine. Historical monuments remain in the old town, such as the Brigette Monastry, the St. Peter and Paul Church with its functioning vault, a Sinagogue, the Pokrovskaya Church and other historical constructions that attract guests and residents of Lutsk. It is not strange that European monarchs and Ukrainian hetmans have been enchanted by Lutsk since ancient times, because it is a real monument of history. Today Lutsk truly opens its heart to anyone who wishes to reach back a 1000 years into history and to sense the town’s princely spirit and greatness. Ukraina Hotel is always ready to welcome you as our highly appreciated guests.
