This monument honours national hero and the first official President of the Philippines, General Emilio Aguinaldo y Famy (March 23, 1869 – February 6, 1964), of the Magdalo Faction of the anti-Spanish revolutionary organisation known as KKK or "Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng̃ mga Anak ng̃ Bayan." It is after him that this military camp was renamed from Camp Murphy.

He played an instrumental role during the Philippines' revolution against Spain, and the subsequent Philippine-American War that resisted the American Occupation. Aguinaldo was also the youngest at age 29 to have become the country's president, and the longest-lived, having died at the age of 94.
