In the 60s and 70s, and even part of the 80s, this was a great place to camp out, dig clams, catch crabs, and gather oysters and mussels, before busybody bureaucrats had the dunes flattened and the grasses, plants, and shrubs torn out, sent rangers in to boss people around, and citified the whole place until it seemed like you hadn't even left town, just to give them an excuse to charge people for the privilege of being disgusted by what they'd done to it.
