This striking mansion which you may have seen coming up the hill on Guerrero was built in 1895 as the private home of John Daly who made his fortune with a succesful dairy farm in San Mateo county. After the fire in 1906, Daly subdivided his 250 acres there and sold the plots to refugees displaced by the fire. In 1911 the that area was incorporated and named Daly City in his honor.
I don't know what's going on with this building now.
