Research Institute for Tropical Medicine established in 1989 by virtue of the Executive Order 674 with funding from the Japanese government.

The RITM is tasked by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine government to supervise, plan, and successfully implement research programs to prevent and to control prevailing infectious and tropical diseases in the Philippines.
