Pronounced 'Woolidge' or 'Woolitch' (like the 'oo' in 'book'), Woolwich is located on the south side of the River Thames opposite London City Airport in the London Borough of Greenwich. There is a car ferry and a foot tunnel across the Thames to Woolwich North/Silvertown. It has a strong military history with Woolwich Dockyard. The Premier League Arsenal FC team originally were men from the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich. The more affluent neighbourhoods are in the south however there are many listed buildings throughout.
