This built to last brick building at South Street and West Main Street is seen every day by hundreds of shoppers but few pause to admire and appreciate the storefront and storeside. Built in the Greek Revival style around 1850 by James M. Ludlam of Mill Neck, it replaced an earlier structure built by James Ludlam in 1848 which was destroyed by fire. Ludlam ran a general store here in the 19th century. Later in the 19th century Kurzman Brothers Department Store occupied the premises.
