The Woodlands Cemetery is a National Historic Landmark located on the western banks of the Schuylkill River. It includes a federal style mansion, a matching carriage house and stable, and a garden landscape that, beginning in 1840, was transformed into a "rural" Victorian cemetery with an arboretum of over 1,000 trees. It is the burial site of many prominent citizens of Philadelphia and the surrounding area.
