On the evening of January 13 1999 at 20.39 hours, a Boeing KC-135 (of the American Air National Guard (ANG), tailnumber 91452) crashed on landing. Only a few kilometres away from the village Schinveld and from what would be an enormous disaster. All four crew members were killed. The crew: Major David Fite, Captain Ken Thiele, Major Matthew Laiho and Technical Sergeant Rich Visintainer.
