The main railway station in the new town of Hemel Hempstead, which is also served by Apsley railway station. It was opened by the London and Birmingham Railway in 1837 as 'Boxmoor' as the terminus of the first phase before it was soon extended to Bletchley. At one time this was the terminus of the 'Nicky Line' to Harpenden via Hemel Hampstead (the old town) and Redbourn. It was closed by the Beeching Axe.
Later, it was renamed 'Hemel Hampstead' when the New Town was built. It is located on an Intercity Line but is only served by local services by London Midland; the station was rebuilt in the '60s and is not of much architectural merit.
