sculpture, equestrian statue
This sculpture by Cyrus Dallin, depicts a Sioux chief, defeated by the US Army, engaged in prayer. Dallin first envisioned this sculpture as a three-figure composition. The monumental bronze version of 1909 stands in front of the Museum of Fine Arts. By the 1920s, The Appeal had already become one of many American sculptural icons by Dallin, and remains so today. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_the_Great_Spirit
