Madi

Madi is a part of Chitwan district of Nepal. Though Chitwan is counted as one of the comperatively developed district of Nepal, Madi is totally different. Surounded by densly forested hill on the south, east and west; separated from mainland Chitwan by 2 rivers and thick forest of Chitwan National Park Madi a beautiful valley for it's around 90,000 inhabitants. On the south it borders to India's least developed state of Bihar, but is not linked by means of transport. The border area is covered with dense forest and hills. Madi does not have electricity yet and no round the year road link to mainland Chitwan, ie. the district HQ. Madi does not have a reliable health facility, has no reliable telephone, internet!
The main cities are Baruwa, Basantapur and Kalyanpur. Bhairapur (also known as Dhikun)is one of the beautiful villages in Madi which is very close to Baruwa city. People of this village are well educated. Atleast one member of each family is a university graduate.

Agriculture is main source of income and livelyhood. Because of the lack of modern and professional farming mathods and technology, lack of irrigation, farming hardly yields enough to carry on life. Lot of youths leave every year for cities and gulf coutries searching for employment. Even in such a situation people of Madi always look happy and hospitable.

  • Every thing may be change in chitwan madi.but i think one thing never change.i will hope and all there live people hope change soon.problems of electrocity it is impossibe to reach.because there are many people educated there are enough political leader .but they people are do'nt recommend of goverment related officer.because there are stay on only dumb and blind people.please now to wake up public to develop our madi.no one people or political leader do not anything.

  • Is it allowed for foreigners to cross the Chitwan National Park on the road to Madi? Or, do they have to pay entrance fee ore something alike?
  • Entrance fees are payable (very much nominal) even by daily commuters entering or leaving madi via chitwan national park, which is the only viable route. And of course foreigners are also allowed. Entrance fees varies accordingly, whether you want to visit chitwan national park or only use park as commuting route to madi.
  • Thanks, Bish Esh, for your information. I just went to Madi twice and I love it. Road tax is 12 NRs. for a bike. I just was afraid, we had to pay the high National Park entrance fee if we want to cross the forest which is not the case. However, if we want to visit the crocodile farm, foreigners have to pay a heavy 1,600 NRs. park entrance fee.... :-( .... So, I didn't go.... - - Madi is beautiful!!! :-)
