Christ the Redeemer International Tunnel

Christ the Redeemer International Tunnel

This tunnel high in the Andes is on the border of Argentina and Chile. Nearby, also on the border is the world-famous statue of the same name, Christ the Redeemer. This was built in 1906 to commemorate the end of a border dispute between the two countries. The chileans were angry because Christ looks out over Argentina and turns his back on Chile. A chilean writer once wrote that it was put that way because Argentina needed to be looked after more than Chile.
