Formerly called Nagtahan Bridge, it was renamed Mabini Bridge by President Ferdinand E. Marcos on July 22, 1967 on the occasion of the 103rd Birthday Anniversary of Apolinario Mabini.
A marker of the National Historical Institute is located at the end of the Northbound lane of the Mabini Bridge.
The marker has both a Filipino and English inscription, all in capital letters.
