NYU Weinstein Residence Hall (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / New York City, New York / University Place, 11
 university, Modern (architecture)

9-story NYU dorm building completed in 1962. Designed by Harrison & Abramovitz, features an "A" side which faces University Place, and a "B" side, facing Mercer Street (the two wings were segregated for male or female-only students on each side). Both facades are clad in dark-red brick with a regular grid of double windows above air conditioning vents. The west facade on University Place spans 11 bays, while the east facade on Greene Street is 10 bays. The simple roof parapet is capped by a metal coping.

There are two dining halls between the two sides, one on the ground floor and one on the first basement level. Despite the food, Weinstein Hall is often considered one of the worst NYU dorms by students because of its relatively utilitarian rooms featuring linoleum flooring, painted cinderblock walls, and room shapes oddly reminiscent of jail cells. The upstairs dining room was designed in 1999 by Butler Rogers Baskett Architects.
