The entrance on the north side of the Whitaker Cemetery is marked with concrete pier, iron gates and a nameplate placed on the pier in 1960, which states the Cemetery was established in 1879. The gates and nameplate were donated by descendants of the Whitaker family. In 1910, the Cemetery was enclosed with a balustrade type fence. In 1936, the Sara De Soto Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution placed a historical marker to identify the grave of Mary Wyatt Whitaker and her place in history. That marker was originally placed on the Tamiami Trail and 12th Street. In 1988, the marker was moved from the Tamiami Trail location to its present site directly in front of the cemetery entrance.

The predominate feature of the Cemetery is the vault of William and Mary Whitaker.
