In the swinging 1970s, this area was home to a number of lounges, pubs and discos. The party started early and lasted into the wee hours-bar to pub, disco to lounge and into the streets. For a brief moment the area gained a national nod of recognition when latin songman Trini Lopez gave Fat City its props to Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show.
