St. Francis of Assisi Parish (Meycauayan)

Philippines / Central Luzon / Marilao / Meycauayan
 Roman Catholic church  Add category

Founded by the Franciscan Friars Juan de Plasencia and Diego Oropeza in 1578.
The first church was destroyed by a typhoon in 1588. The construction of the present church was started shortly after 1668 when the town was moved from Lagolo to the present site. Fray Francisco Gascuena, OFM, who built the belfry in 1800, preached the gospel in China for six years, and was expelled from that kingdom due to opposition to his religious teachings. He served this parish for 31 years and died here on Nov. 18, 1831. The convent and church were seriously damaged by the typhoon of 1882.

  • ganda na to now!
  • I spent most of my childhood hearing mass at this church. This church is so nostalgic with all the people you meet, the atmosphere, and the feeling you get once you've stepped out of this church knowing that you have been blessed by God. Whenever I'd want to reminisce of my early childhood days, I'd go and hear mass at this church. I'd sometimes even see the same people and families I once would see every Sunday morning mass. I just wish I knew who they were! Haha! :)
