Karanja the heritage town is also mentioned in the novel of shivaji maharaj (RAJE SHIVAJI) as "Sampattiche karanje". They mentioned that this town was very much rich at that time and the king used to collect the tax thrice a year. It is also invaded sometimes by Shivaji maharaj to collect money for his purpose. The person claims that the invader used to fall short of conveyance to take off the money from this town.

My Childhood Days in Karanja Childhood the most exciting period of our life makes a come back in our memory lane as we watch the pranks of our own children. In those days, my mother used to call me a living specter as I would never keep my feet at rest in the home. Kite flying was one such an activity I would desperately like that I would forget everything before it. No sooner did I return from the school, I would throw away the school bag and run with a kite and a khiradi (a device on which the thread is wound) to my uncle’s house. My mother feeling scared of my practice, would usually follow me to see what untoward things I was doing. Because the uncle’s house was roofed with iron sheets, climbing it was a risky shot. As I would take a ladder, which was usually placed beside an open bathroom, my mother would scream, “Foolish, you’ll break your legs one day.” I would climb the ladder never caring any risk . I think, that’s what childhood is! As of now when I see the loose ladder and the dilapidated condition of my uncle’s house, I can understand as why mother was feeling so scared of my kite flying activity. Come diwali, and we were ready with a box full of crackers to blow away. I would usually buy Laxi Atom Bombs. A tin box ,we would place on the cracker and burn it. As it exploded the tin box would fly away creating a rare kind of sound rocking the people around with the unusual sound. Of course, it was impossible to act uncontrollably when father was at home. “You idiots, don’t move”, he would shout at us and we would become Mickey mouse in the house to never fly away. And we turn ourselves into diehard book readers till our father was away. Hardly had the exams are over we would sell out our books in an old books store and relieve ourselves. We would tear the blank pages of our notebooks and bundle them together. A nearest printing press owner would bind them for us in few rupees. That notebook we would use in the next schooling year. An economical utilization of resources, we learnt by that way. We played with mud, stone and wood. Our playing things were inexpensive. We were extremely happy with the few things we had. Cards, gulli dannda, gotties, wooden top were our precious possessions for sports. Where has all the pleasure of childhood gone in the age of Chinese toys, fastfood and digital entertainment?
