Major M A Jalil was valiant freedom fighter. He fought against Pakistan occupation forces during Bangladesh war of Liberation in 1971. He fought in Sector 11. For his excellent bravery he had been awarded gallantry award "Bir Uttam". This road bridge across Sandha or Sugandha river is named after him.
