The history of the City Museum building, located in the heart of Tallinn's Old Town, at Vene tn. 17, dates back to the 14th century.
The building, with its stylish pointed-arched portal and magnificent double windows under a high hipped roof, is a typical medieval dwelling. For centuries, the house belonged to the city's prominent citizens - merchants and mayors.The building was adapted as a museum in 1963-1965, and it received its current appearance during renovations in 1997-2000.The museum's exposition provides an overview of Tallinn's history through the centuries, from the end of ancient times to the restoration of Estonian independence in 1991.
