Civil war era earthen fortification to defend Louisville and Nashville Turnpike Road (current US Hwy 31W at West Point)and Salt River junction with the Ohio River. The fort never saw action, but two raids by Confederate Gen. John Hunt Morgan's cavalry occurred just south and west of West Point.
