Mount Nimrud

Nemrut or Nemrud (Turkish: Nemrut Dağı ; Armenian: Նեմրութ լեռ) is a 2,134 m (7,001 ft) high mountain in southeastern Turkey, notable for the summit where a number of large statues is erected around what is assumed to be a royal tomb from the 1st century BCE.The mountain lies 40 km north of Kahta, near Adıyaman. In 62 BC, King Antiochus I Theos of Commagene built on the mountain top a tomb-sanctuary flanked by huge statues (8-9 meters high). In 1987, Mount Nemrut was made a World heritage site by UNESCO world-pyramids.com/en/world-pyramids/europe/nemrut-pyra...

  • A must see site. A long way from anywhere but you must go there. You will need to take a tour if u dont have a car but it is well worth it. I paid 50 turkish Lira in 2006 for evening visit with other site included. AWSOME.
  • This place is #1 on the itinerary for my upcoming trip to Turkey. Can't wait to take some photos and upload them at Wikimedia Commons!
