Haja Stores
In 1983, we moved to 109 A, Sector 1, one of the earliest settlers of this township. There was only a part of Sector 1, management trainee hostel and Kendriya Vidyalaya that were occupied at that time. There were only about 30 -40 families in this entire township. A Tamil Muslim trader set up a tiny kirana shop diagonally across 109 A Sector 1 using palm thatch leaves. He had anticipated a big draw to the township and came prepared. He met each and every one of those 30 families and begged them to buy from his little kirana shop and not go all the way to Gajuwaka. Some of the families agreed, including mine. We encouraged him to stay put and bought all our needs from him. We also directed other new settlers to buy from him and made his clientale grow. As the township grew, he sought our help and got this permanent shop. His original clients followed despite being far from their home and started to buy from here. The man brought hsi family and brothers down and set up a good business. He remained loyal to his customers by poviding them the best quality provisions at the best prices and even encouraged running accounts. He door delivered goods using a cycle and then acquired an autorickshaw to do the same. He made great progress and also started departmental stores in Gajuwaka and other places. His family prospered but the man never forgot his humility. It has been 26 years since we first met him. We still buy our provisions from him. He is a family friend and we have visited his family at his ancestral town of Tenkasi.
