Newark Crossing (Newark-on-Trent)

 railroad crossing  Add category

This is one of the few flat railway crossings in the UK, located where the Nottingham-Lincoln line crosses the major East Coast Main Line. Fast trains on the East Coast Main Line can do as fast as 125mph across the crossing. There is a curve connecting the Lincoln line to Newark North Gate station. There are also plans to grade-separate the crossing.

  • Actually the trains have to slow to 100mph to go over the crossing ... which is still pretty fast, but it's not 125 ;)
  • Flat crossing has now been replaced with a cross-over: N-S main line crosses the Nottingham-Lincoln line with a bridge.
  • Got it wrong. It's still there. Confused it with something else as I was going past on the train
