A pond fed by natural springs was originally located here. It was used for swimming in the summer, and for skating and ice during the winter. The pond was later filled in around 1910, and was later used by the 1920 US Olympic team for training. The ice house, where ice cut from the pond was kept, was destroyed sometime between 1906-1908.
