Korutla (also known as Koratla) is one of the prominent towns in Karimnagar district, Andhra Pradesh, India. The population of Korutla is around 100,000. Indian postal code 505326. It is the major city in Buggaram assembly constituency of Andhra Pradesh State. Telugu, Hindi, Urdu are widely spoken languages in Korutla.

It is believed that Korutla has its name during Nizam’s era, previously known as Koravattu. Most of the people here are business oriented. Textiles trading, Home based Beedi industry, and inflow of money from non resident indians working in the gulf area are the main sources of income in this area. People here are very devotional and religious. And Korutla is known for its temples: Sai Baba Temple, Durga Temple, Ayyappa Temple, Nageswara Temple, Ramalayam and Venkateswara Temple are few to name. Durga Navaratri, Vinayaka Navaratri, Deepavali, Sri Rama Navami, Sankranti are grandly celebrated by community.

The great story of korutla was revealed by old stone inscription (shilashasanam), written in 1042-1068 A.D was found in the holy pond (koneru) of korutla. As per the writings and opinions of people here, korutla has got thousands of years of history. 10 decades ago it was ruled by great kings of JAINAS, KALYANIS, CHALUKYAS, VEMULAWADA CHALUKYAS and RASTRAKUTAS.

In the era of Jaina's it was called "KORAVATTU". As the days were passing, it changed to "KORAVATLU", "KORATLU", and finally changed to present name KORUTLA. In telugu it is written as KORUTLA, but in English it is written both as "KORUTLA" & "KORATLA". Another belief is that the people (munulu & rushulu) , belong to the tribe of "KORAVATTU", used to live here and performed their devotional activities in this place.


As per the sayings of old people the big and old constructions are called "BURUJULU". They were built for the protection of the palace (gadi), which is located in the middle of six burujulu. The palace was recently destroyed. Out of these six Burujulu, one was destroyed but remaining five still can be seen. A big wall used to be there connecting all burjulu, It was wide enough that a car could go on it.

Along the wall, there used to be a canal with full of water for additional protection measures. For this reason that area is still called "KALWAGADDA". In the premises of palace there is a HOLY POND (koneru), which is constructed by rock, under the ground, surrounding the holy pond there is a construction with pillar and a dress room. The temples of lord VENKATESHWARA, VENUGOPALASWAMI, were built also built in era, which have hot thousand years of history. Still intact and offer services to locals.


For the last thousand years, korutla has been exposing itself in the fields of business, culture and tradition. Before two decades to the era of nizam, Korutla is famous for its paper production and was exported to various places of country, and clothes made by korutla workers called "KORUTLA COATS" got international fame. Great philosopher, well-known teacher Sri Senapathi Nursimhachari established a "Sanskrit college", "school of Vedas" in Venugopala swami temple near Kalvagadda.

Korutla is also surrounded by many Hindu religious pilgrimages such as Vemulawada (45 miles), Dharma Puri (30 miles), Kondagattu (20 miles).
