Located in the northwestern part of South P'yongan Province, Anju City was chartered by the KCCP in October 1987. It has a population of about 230,000 as an industrial city with numerous textile/garment processing and manufacturing facilities. Anju is also known as the coal city, or coal capital, of the DPRK.
