McLean is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. The McLean CDP's population increased from 38,929 in 2000 to 48,115 in 2010, a 23% increase. This increase reflects the CDP's geographic expansion from Spring Hill Road westward. McLean has the ZIP Codes 22101 and 22102. The McLean ZIP code 22102 is the wealthiest ZIP code in the Washington Metropolitan Area.

McLean is home to many diplomats, members of Congress, and high-ranking government officials partially due to its proximity to Washington, D.C. and the Central Intelligence Agency. It is the location of Hickory Hill, the former home of Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy. It is also the location of Salona, the former home of Light-Horse Harry Lee, the Revolutionary War hero.

Located between the George Washington Parkway and the town of Vienna, the area is known for its high-end shopping destination, The Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria.

McLean is named for the former publisher and owner of the Washington Post. The CDP of McLean includes the unincorporated communities of Lewinsville, Langley, and West McLean.
